Comparison of Satellite Databases and Ground Measurements for Estimating Relevant Climatic Variables in Photovoltaic Production in Colombia
Abstract.
Photovoltaic energy production critically depends on the quality of solar resources, which are influenced by various meteorological variables such as global horizontal irradiance (GHI), ambient temperature, and relative humidity. However, obtaining precise historical ground data can be challenging, limiting informed decision-making with high reliability. This study compares GHI, ambient temperature, and relative humidity data from four satellite databases: ECMWF Reanalysis v5, NASA Power, and two others. With ground measurements from 2023 taken at eight meteorological stations distributed across different departments in Colombia.
